About the Area
A market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Radcliffe is known for its community feel, local produce and multicultural delicacies.
The flea and street markets are the ideal place to pick up a gift, crafts, and more.
Named after the nearby red sandstone cliffs, Radcliffe may be one of the oldest settlements in Greater Manchester. Archaeological digs in 1949/50 produced evidence of a prehistoric Palaeolithic/Mesolithic settlement dating back to 6000 BC.
History buffs will love the 15th Century Radcliff Tower, the ruins of a Grade I listed manor, with nearby signs explaining some of the town’s rich and varied history.
Not far from Radcliffe town, you will find the beautiful Springwater Park, a local nature reserve perfect for picnics, leisurely strolls and organised bat and wildflower walks.
Nature lovers should also visit Outwood Country Park, which has hidden bluebells, a variety of wildlife, and trails leading to Prestwich!
