Bi-Fold Doors FAQ's

What Manchester Window Factory doesn’t know about doors isn’t worth knowing, so if your question isn’t answered below, our family-run business is here to help.

There are a couple of alternatives to bi-fold doors, including pivot doors, slide and stack doors, and pocket doors. There are also some window options, such as a triangular window or a window seat. However, the most popular alternatives to bi-fold doors are sliding doors and French doors. Sometimes, such as after an extension, an original window can even be converted into French doors. Which you choose, will depend on your requirements for the space and your taste.

This is really a question of which is better for you. Consider your budget, the look you are going for, the level of maintenance, and security, before you make your choice. For example, aluminium bi-fold doors are more expensive than uPVC upfront, but aluminium has a slightly longer lifespan and requires less maintenance. Aluminium offers more choices of colours and finishes than uPVC, but uPVC is more thermally efficient than aluminium. Aluminium is stronger than uPVC, therefore, aluminium bi-fold doors are slightly more secure. However, all our bi-fold doors are available with laminated glass and Ultion door barrels for state-of-the-art security.

The question of whether bi-fold doors or sliding doors are best really depends on what you need from your doors. They each offer benefits and have drawbacks that could influence your decision. For example, bi-fold doors can be fully opened for a seamless blend of ‘outside in’ but sliding doors provide an unobstructed view. On the other hand, a high number of frames in your bi-fold doors can obstruct the view, while sliding doors are less convenient to open.
