Why Choose Patio Doors from Manchester Window Factory?

Patio doors have a long and distinguished history, with glass sliding examples recorded in Roman houses as early as the first century CE. French doors followed in the 17th Century French Renaissance and, although the technology has evolved, the basic design remains essentially the same.

Our patio doors are as attractive and functional as any you’ll find, with a choice of colours and finished and laminated glass and Ultion door barrels available on every model.

Whether you choose sliding patio doors or French doors, you know that with Manchester Window Factory you are getting the highest quality products available.

Secure, energy-efficient, and visually appealing, our patio doors would grace any classical or modern home.

Aluminium sliding patio doors

Durable, secure and attractive, aluminium sliding patio doors are ideal for external use. Aluminium is strong and thermally efficient, yet lightweight, plus our patio doors offer a slim 35mm interlock. Our aluminium patio doors come in classic black, bright white, or contemporary grey for a sleek and modern look.

UPVC patio doors

Alternatively, our superb range of uPVC patio doors is rot, rust, and flake-resistant, making them a low-maintenance option that meets British Security Standards. Available in a variety of colours and finishes, uPVC patio doors are another excellent option to frame the entrance to your patio or garden.

Timber patio doors

For those who prefer a classic look, timber French doors have timeless appeal. Strong and secure with a fast opening and closing action, our timber French doors combine beauty with practical benefits, including retaining heat and weather resistance. Available in a range of colours and finishes, with an interlock 30-mil design, our timber French doors enhance the overall appearance of your home.

Energy-Efficient and Weather Resistant

Homes lose 40% of heat through their windows, doors and floors, so it is important to find energy-efficient options to reduce heat loss and our heating bills!

All our patio doors are energy-efficient, with double, triple and laminated glass options.

Our French doors and uPVC and aluminium patio doors have air-tight draught-resistant seals, while the fast opening and closing action of our French doors also keeps heat loss to a minimum.

Our patio doors boast U-values (rate of heat transfer) as low as 0.8, offering market-leading sustainability and helping you reduce your carbon footprint to boot.

Combined with our range of glazing options, all our patio doors are BBA-certified for security and peace of mind.

Sizing options and limitations

Our patio doors are available in 2-pane, 3-pane, 4-pane and 6-pane options, with widths anywhere between 1000mm (1 meter) to 6950mm (6.95 meters).  If you need an oversized door, aluminium is the best option. The cost is determined by height and width.

Patio Doors FAQ's

What MFW doesn’t know about doors isn’t worth knowing, so if your question isn’t answered below, our family-run business is here to help.

While French doors and sliding doors are both great choices for patio doors, the main difference is how they open and close. French doors are double doors that open inwards or outwards, with swinging hinges. Sliding patio doors open and close by sliding along a track fitted to the wall.

Which is better between a glass sliding door and a French door is entirely a matter of taste and taking into account your requirements. For example, both types are energy-efficient and secure, but French doors can be opened and closed more quickly, leading to even less heat loss, but sliding doors have thinner frames than French doors, further maximising the natural light.

French doors tend to be slightly more expensive than sliding doors, due to the thicker frames and the materials used. French doors start from around £1,400 compared to £1,200 for sliding patio doors.

The short answer is yes, although French doors tend to be slightly more energy-efficient than sliding patio doors due to thicker frames and faster opening and closing action. Both styles are available with double or triple glazing, which increases energy efficiency. Sliding patio doors also have tighter seals to prevent heat loss so both are energy-efficient options.

Yes, both types of patio doors require some cleaning and maintenance but it differs between styles. French doors need to be cleaned regularly to keep them looking their best. If the frame is aluminium or uPVC you can clean them using the same solution you use on the glass. If the frames are wooden, just use a small amount of warm soapy water and try to avoid getting excessive amounts in the frame. You can also brush stubborn stains on a wooden frame with a brush, whereas only use soft cloths on uPVC.

Maintaining sliding patio doors is mostly about keeping the glass clean since the frames are often ultra slimline and keeping the door track clean.

Tracks can get clogged with dust, dirt, leaves, pet hair and other remnants from shoes finding their way in. You can hoover and clean the tracks with warm soapy water – using an old toothbrush to get into the hard-to-reach areas.
