What are Flush Casement Windows?

Flush casement windows use positioned hinges to enable the window to open fully outward. Once closed, the window sits seamlessly within the frame, with no overlap between the two.

This differs from stormproof casement windows, which open in the same manner but have a visible lip that protrudes from the frame when closed.

Colours

Flush casement windows are available in a range of colours to match your design aesthetic. White is still the most popular uPVC colour, but blacks, greys, wood-tones and natural greens are increasingly popular for both modern and heritage looks. If you have something more specific in mind, our windows can also be colour-matched to any paint brand or RAL code using either paint or powder coating.

Configurations & Glazing

Our uPVC flush casement windows can be manufactured in two ways: with contemporary ‘invisible’ welds or with a mock mortise and tenon joint for a more authentic look.

You can also choose how your flush casements are configured and open, with options including ‘tilt and turn’.

Obscure glass options including leaded and bevelled help you complete the look.

How secure are flush casement windows?

Flush casement windows are one of the most secure windows on the market today. They incorporate airtight seals, string frames and double or triple-glazing. Plus, as there is no overlap between the window and frame, there are limited ways for intruders to gain access. You can further enhance your window’s security with strong locks and safety glass.

Are flush casement windows expensive?

Flush casement windows are generally slightly more expensive than stormproof casement windows, but cheaper than sliding sash windows. You would expect to pay between £350 – £550 for a standard-size flush casement window compared to £300 – £550 for a stormproof design. Sliding sash windows typically cost around £500 – £2725.

The materials used and the size of the window are the biggest factors affecting the price, but the installation cost is higher for flush casement windows.

How long does installation take?

It takes a professional fitter approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to install a flush casement window, depending on the size, access and the complexity of the design.

Are all UPVC windows the same?

Not all UPVC windows are the same, and that’s to your benefit. Where UPVC may once have had a reputation for being a standard plastic window, this is far from reality now. Huge advancements in materials create more choice than ever – whether you’re on a budget, live near a busy road, would like a rustic look, or just want to be as energy-efficient as possible, you can tailor your UPVC casement windows to match your needs.

Will they save on my heating bills?

Yes, there is high potential for saving on utility bills with flush casement windows. Because they have such a strong seal on all sides, they can offer incredible energy efficiency. With double-glazing or triple-glazing, these savings could go even further.

What are the parts of a casement window called?

We understand that jargon can make double-glazing window shopping a bit confusing. Here’s a quick outline of the parts of a standard casement window.

Outer frame: 70mm multi-chambered profile, which forms the outside of the window
Mullion: vertical profiles which fit into the outer frame
Transom: horizontal profiles that fix into the outer frame
Sill: a surface which deflects water away from brickwork below, on which the window frames sit. These can be 85mm, 150mm, 180mm, 225mm or 250mm.
Casement sash: the opening of the window, which can be top-hung or side-hung
Dummy dash: a fixed sash for cosmetic purposes, which does not open
Double-glazed unit: two panes of glass separated by a warm-edge ‘Swiss’ spacer bar filled with argon gas

The staff in the store were friendly, helpful and answered all of our questions with patience and without any of the usual sales push or pressure tactics you sometimes get from window suppliers. The team were great at responding to emails and phone calls when we had queries about our order, and they guided us through all the various options to help us select something that fit the style of our property. The measurer and fitters turned up when they said they would, and they were polite, professional and cleaned up after themselves. The windows look great and are fantastic quality.
