About the Area
Part of Cheshire’s so-called Golden Triangle (with Alderley Edge and Prestbury), Wilmslow is an attractive small town surrounded by lush green spaces, mosslands, farms, and parks.
The Carrs public park is a popular picnic spot and hosts a local Parkrun. History buffs can visit Quarry Bank Mill, one of the best preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution, and a Victorian apprentice house.
Events such as the 100-year-old annual Wilmslow Show, the motor show and the scarecrow festival attract thousands of visitors every year.
Just 11 miles south of Manchester, the town offers excellent links across the North West and further afield.
Known for its boutique shops and abundance of fine dining establishments, Wilmslow attracts celebrities such as actors, footballers, and pop stars who choose to make their home there.
The indie-rock outfit, The 1975, was formed at Wilmslow High School, while the band the Doves wrote many songs about the town. Famous long-time residents include Coronation Street stars William Roache and Simon Gregson, while computer genius Alan Turing also spent a significant time as a Wilmslow resident.
