About the Area
Once known as ‘Porkhampton’ due to the number of pigs bred for the Manchester market, Stretford is now an up-and-coming suburb, with a reputation for excellent food and drink.
Close to Chorlton and Altrincham, Stretford has benefitted from redevelopment, in recent years, with proposals for more green areas, homes, bars and restaurants in the works. Grab a New York-style pizza or bagel at the hugely popular Bakehouse32, enjoy a craft beer at Longford Tap or head to Stretford Food Hall for a huge array of street food.
Home, in part, to the biggest industrial park in EuropeTrafford Park, and Manchester United Football Club stadium, Old Trafford, Stretford is also close to several parks and walkways, including Moss Park, Victoria Park, Turn Moss, and Stretford Meadows.
Other attractions include Stretford Public Hall, a community-owned and run Grade II listed venue featuring live music, art exhibitions, cinema screening and a beautiful ballroom. You can also visit the Stretford Great Stone, a large rock at the entrance to Gorse Hill Park with numerous myths and legends associated with it.
