About the Area

Set in South East Manchester, Urmston is a town and village known for its smorgasbord of independent bars, eateries, and restaurants. From vegan fayre at Owen’s Kitchen and Bar to the aptly named ‘Scrumptious Tea Rooms’, you are sure to eat well in Urmston. You can also eat and drink in the lovingly restored 1939-built The Barking Dog Alehouse & Kitchen or The Steamhouse, which sits in the original Urmston train station.

The name is thought to have come from Orme’s Easton, or Ormestun, the “tun” or dwelling of Orme Fitz Seward, as the manor house at the centre was once rented by a family with that surname.

Today, the town is home to many young professionals and families who benefit from its many green spaces. The picturesque Urmston Meadows is a short stroll from the town centre while, not much further, lies the beautiful 1920s-built Davyhulme Park.

A miniature railway has been running through Abbotsfield Park since 1948 every Sunday (excluding bank holidays) thanks to the Urmston and District Railway Society.

The town has excellent transport links to Manchester and Liverpool and plenty of cycling and walking routes.

Famous sons and daughters of Urmston include TV presenter and actor Matthew Kelly, actors Ian McShane, Judith Margaret Loe (mother of actress Kate Beckinsale), Stephanie Waring, Lynda Baron and Eileen Derbyshire, MBE, and weather forecaster Suzanne Charlton.

We don’t just cover Urmston

We are delighted to provide the highest possible standard of service and the most innovative products to customers across the North West. Our catchment area includes Cheshire, Greater Manchester and beyond.

Don’t see your location on the list? Don’t worry, we cover a large area, just ask!
