Why Choose Aluminium Windows?

Durability & Strength

Aluminium is naturally strong and durable, even as a slim frame. Its resistance to rust, corrosion, warping and rotting makes it an ideal material for long-lasting windows. Our aluminium windows come with a 10-year insurance-backed warranty but can last three times that long with little effort.

Slim Profile for Maximum Light

Aluminium is incredibly flexible and can be made ultra-thin without losing any of its strength. This means you can enjoy slimmer profiles and larger glazed areas for an elegant appearance, gorgeous views and maximum natural light flowing into your home.

Low Maintenance

Another benefit of our slimline aluminium windows is that they require very little maintenance. Unlike timber, which needs regular painting and frequent upkeep, aluminium only needs cleaning with warm soapy water when it gets dirty.

Aluminium is resistant to rust, so there’s no need to worry about getting it wet, and it doesn’t scratch or split as UPVC can after prolonged use or exposure to extreme weather.

Eco-Friendly Material

Eco-conscious customers are also fans of aluminium. Not only is it an abundant natural material, sustainably sourced, but it is 100% and infinitely recyclable.

Bespoke Aluminium Windows

Colours & Finishes

Our best aluminium windows are powder-coated colours for a smooth even finish in a choice of classic black, bright white or modern anthracite grey.

If you’re prepared to wait a little longer, you can select any RAL colour for your windows to be professionally sprayed. Whether you love the drama of jewel colours, prefer pretty pastels, or it is brights that make your heart happy, we can help you find your ideal shade. From emerald and amethyst to eggshell, blush or zingy orange, we’ve got you covered.

You can choose a metallic finish, Alchemy anodised effect, or Smart Sensations textured finish.

We also offer two-tone windows, so you can have a different colour inside and out.

Glazing Options

Your custom aluminium windows can further enhance your home and lifestyle with stylish and functional glazing options, including acoustic glass to tackle noise pollution, obscure glass for privacy, traditional leaded glass for decoration and self-cleaning glass for high foot-traffic areas.

All our aluminium windows are available with double or triple glazing. Your choice of glass can solve a problem in your home, as well adding curb appeal and potential value to your property.

Design Variants

Our aluminium windows come in various styles, including casement, tilt and turn, and bay windows with a wide range of configurations, making them suitable for any room or property type. Decide how and where they open, how many panes of glass are incorporated, and which hardware is used.

Although aluminium is seen as a modern, minimalist material and can be used effectively for contemporary properties, it is also incredibly versatile and will blend seamlessly with your existing decor and architecture. Our Heritage aluminium windows have been deemed suitable for replacing steel windows in period properties, including conservation areas and listed building renovations, where an authentic appearance is essential.

Energy-Efficient Aluminium Windows

Thermal Break Technology

One of the main drawbacks of traditional aluminium windows was that aluminium is not as good an insulator as UPVC or timber. Our aluminium windows are equipped with innovative polyamide thermal break technology. A non-conductive material inside the frame creates a barrier to ensure that heat and cold air cannot penetrate the window frame as easily. With thermal breaks, the insulation values for the best aluminium windows are comparable to UPVC.

High Energy Ratings

Our aluminium windows are A-rated, with excellent Window Energy Ratings (WER). This means that the glass, frame, and locks were rigorously tested to determine that the windows are airtight (L-value), insulate well (U-value) and block harmful rays from the sun (G-value). These factors combined create the optimal window for reducing heating bills and your carbon footprint.

Low-E Glass

You can take energy efficiency a step further with our Planitherm low-E glass. Some of the most energy-efficient glass available in the UK, Planitherm features a special coating designed to retain maximum internal heat in the home while blocking harmful UV rays from the sun. This way, you can stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer without paying for heating and cooling systems such as aircon. This is increasingly desirable to UK homeowners as we experience more extreme temperatures.

Security Features

Our aluminium windows and doors all adhere to Britsh Police security standards, and carry the PAS 24 seal of approval from the British Standards Institution, with features designed to enhance your security and privacy.

Multi-Point Locking System

Manchester Window Factory slimline aluminium windows incorporate advanced multi-point locking mechanisms for optimal security. These locks prevent a weak point of entry for would-be intruders. Our best aluminium windows can also be fitted as part of a SMART home system.

Durable Aluminium Frames

The windows are also a deterrent, with strong, durable frames and laminated, toughened safety glass to provide fantastic resistance to forced entry, ensuring you and your valuables stay safe and secure.

Durability Very strong and durable, even in a slim profile. Aluminium is weather resistant, very difficult to break, rust, scratch and corrosion resistant. Strong and durable but can crack with exposure to harsh weather or long-time use. Some colours can fade in the sun. Long-lasting if properly maintained but can warp, rot, crack, or the paint can flake.
Maintenance Easy to clean and doesn’t typically require any repairs. Easy to clean and usually no need to repaint, but hard to repair if they do crack or split. Requires regular cleaning, painting and, potentially, repairs

Aluminium vs uPVC:

Aluminium windows tend to be more expensive than UPVC, but they offer the following advantages:

  • Slimmer profile – Aluminium can hold the weight of thick heavy glass without needing to be thick and heavy itself, unlike UPVC, for better views and more natural light
  • Durability – UPVC is strong, but it can crack in extreme weather or prolonged use. Aluminium does not.
  • Eco-friendly  – although UPVC can be recycled, it is more difficult, and UPVC cannot be recycled indefinitely like aluminium

Aluminium vs Wood:

Timber is often lauded for its beautiful, natural appearance and sustainability, but modern aluminium windows match it almost like for like, with some extra benefits:

  • Low maintenance – timber frames require more care and attention, including repairing and repainting to ensure they don’t crack, flake, warp or rot. Aluminium requires only basic cleaning
  • Modern appeal – our aluminium windows offer a sleek contemporary appearance in modern, minimalist homes, but can also work well for period properties
  • Both materials are natural and sustainably sourced with low carbon footprints for both manufacturing and everyday use

Aluminium Windows FAQs

What Manchester Window Factory doesn’t know about windows isn’t worth knowing, so if your question isn’t answered below, our family-run business is here to help.

Whether aluminium windows are better than UPVC windows or vice versa depends on your budget, tastes, and requirements. For example, aluminium is more durable, comes in ultra-slender frames and is infinitely recyclable, but it is more expensive than other window options. UPVC provides better insulation (although aluminium frames with thermal breaks are catching up) and is more affordable. Both are energy-efficient and can be colour-customised.

It is possible to paint existing aluminium windows using the correct metal paint. However, similar to painting UPVC windows, you may be limited in colours, and it can be tricky to produce a professional finish. Fortunately, you can purchase our excellent aluminium windows pre-powder coated in a stock shade or any RAL colour, from pastels to brights.

Our stock colours are classic black, white, and anthracite grey. With RAL colours, you can choose almost any shade your heart desires. You can also opt for dual colours – for a different look inside and out.

Our aluminium windows are some of the most durable on the market and can last over 30 years with very little maintenance. Not only is aluminium naturally strong and durable, but unlike timber, it doesn’t rot or warp. Aluminium windows have been treated to resist corrosion and rust.

You only need to clean them with a mild washing-up liquid or window cleaner and a microfibre cloth when they get dirty.

Better yet, when it is time to replace your aluminium windows, the frames can be recycled an infinite number of times, so you can be sure there’s no waste.
