Wow factor wooden windows guaranteed. Manchester Window Factory offers only the best timber casement windows. With the luxury bespoke feel of natural wood, you can enjoy improved energy efficiency, increased insulation, and better security for years to come.
Traditional Flush Timber Casement Windows
Timber casement windows have been around in the UK since the late 1700s when the fashion for iron frames started to be replaced with more sustainable and affordable timber.
They have undergone some changes over the years, becoming stronger, more energy efficient and better insulators. Today’s wooden casement windows are also far more secure, with multi-point locking systems as standard.
We offer two main types of timber-framed casement windows: traditional timber casement windows, also known as flush timber casement windows and stormproof. Both sit in a frame, either fixed in place or with hinges positioned to enable the window to open fully. This means you can control the ventilation required and offers better access for easy cleaning.
There are different configurations, particularly for larger casement windows, with some panels fixed and others hinged at the top or side.
Traditional casement windows sit flush to the frame, with no lip, providing a minimalist, sleek profile suitable for most properties.
Stormproof Timber Casement Windows
Today’s casement windows are designed with airtight seals to prevent warm air from escaping and water from getting in. But back in the early 1900s, they tended to let water in. In the 1950s, designers solved this problem by creating the ‘stormproof’ timber casement window. This casement window incorporated a ‘lip’ that sits proud of the frame, sticking out slightly to prevent leaks and water damage.
Which you choose is a matter of preference, although those living in areas of the UK which receive extra rainfall or coastal storms may want to consider the extra weather resistance provided by our stormproof casement windows.
Benefits of Timber Framed Casement Windows
There are many benefits to choosing timber-framed casement windows.
Natural Elegance
Full of character, the uniqueness of wood as a window frame means that every timber casement window is unique. Timber offers the perfect natural aesthetic for country homes and historic properties alike.
Environmental Credentials
Our hardwoods and softwoods are sustainably sourced and recyclable for a smaller manufacturing carbon footprint.
Customisable Colours and Finishes
Available in a range of coloured foils, these windows come in either a grained or smooth finish.
Long Lasting
Wooden casement windows need to be durable, remaining strong whatever the weather. Our timber casements deliver this and more, with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee as standard. With the proper care and maintenance, they can last 20+ years. Accoya has a lifespan of 50 years.
Thermal Efficiency
With incredible insulation properties thanks to timber’s low thermal conductivity, combined with airtight seals and double glazing, choosing timber windows can reduce energy bills.
High Quality
We believe that wooden windows are an art form, centering around craftmanship.
Using our in-house joiners, we can replicate any window style using the latest glazing and security innovations without compromising appearance.
Like so many home improvements that utilise the beauty of wood, timber windows are a fine example of craftsmanship and quality.
Energy Efficiency and Insulation Benefits of Timber Windows
Our A-rated timber-framed casement windows are designed with energy efficiency and insulation in mind. Wood is already an excellent natural insulator, particularly when sealed against weather damage and wear and tear, and our wooden frames have been treated to ensure they last.
This frame holds our high-quality double glazing units – featuring two panes of glass separated by a warm edge ‘Swiss’ spacer bar filled with argon gas. The window is then sealed with airtight seals. This combination ensures less warm air escapes through the frame, glass, and in between. Better insulation and ventilation create healthier airflow and keep your home warmer in the winter. A warmer home means you need less central heating, reducing your heating bills and carbon footprint.
Double Glazed Timber Casement Windows
At Manchester Window Factory, all our timber-framed casement windows come double-glazed, as standard, with triple glazing and other specific types of glass also available.
Our top-of-the-line Argon-gas-filled double glazing offers benefits including:
- Increased insulation to keep your home warm in the winter
- Reduced heating bills (by approximately 18%)
- Reduction in unwanted noise from outside
- Excellent ventilation you can control
- Increased security - double-glazing is much harder to break than a single-pane
- Potential increase in property value (up to 10%)
- Reduced carbon footprint by up to 410kg a year
- Block harmful UV rays - less risk of sun damage on furnishings and wooden surfaces
- Reduced condensation - double glazing lessens the risk of condensation, which can cause dampness, mould and mildew
Your Windows, Your Way
